Community Colleges Fly High at the 2018 SkillsUSA NC Conference

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure that America has a skilled work force. Edgecombe Community College and Catawba Valley Community College — two community college teams who competed in the 2018 NC Space Grant Community College Team Challenge and Competition — presented on their projects at the SkillsUSANC conference that took place on April 20th.

Harry Snell placed first in his event.
  • 1st place Career Pathways Showcase – Industrial & Engineering Technology – Edgecombe Community College (Copeland Lachapelle, Robert (Chap) Lachapelle, Emilee Moore)
  • 1st place in Principles of Engineering – Edgecombe Community College (Garrett Parker)
  • 1st place Engineering Technology & Design – Catawba Valley Community College (Jason Rhoney, Sidney Richardson, Brennan Wickham)
  • 2nd place Engineering Technology & Design – Edgecombe Community College (Emily Brake, Chris Nalepka, Brian Rodriguez)
  • 1st place Skill Project Showcase Individual: Engineering – Edgecombe Community College (Harry Snell, right)​

First place teams in state competitions will represent North Carolina at the National SkillsUSA Conference which will be held in Louisville, Kentucky in June.

Both teams received support from NC Space Grant through the 2018 NC Space Grant Community College Team Challenge and Competition program.
