Students from eligible Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) can now apply for two MSI scholarships: the MSI STEM Pathways Scholarship and the MSI STEM Bridge Scholarship. Applications are open until Monday, October 14, 2024.

North Carolina Space Grant will host three information sessions to provide details about these opportunities and offer tips on how to craft high-quality applications.

Letters of recommendation are required for both scholarships and must be submitted by Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

MSI STEM Pathways Scholarship

The Pathways Scholarship is designed to support students at the beginning stages of their STEM academic journeys. It introduces them to STEM research and career opportunities related to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Full-time community college students and non-senior undergraduates at eligible MSIs or HBCUs pursuing a STEM field may apply.

Recipients of the MSI STEM Pathways Scholarship will receive $3,000 in funding. They will also have the chance to apply for the NASA fellowship and internship program, attend a webinar with NASA and STEM experts, research current NASA missions, and interview a faculty member in their field of interest.

MSI STEM Bridge Scholarship

The Bridge Scholarship is aimed at students advancing their STEM careers, helping them access NC Space Grant or other research scholarship opportunities. It supports students in developing research plans and conducting research. Full-time sophomores, juniors, or seniors at eligible MSIs or HBCUs pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a STEM field are eligible to apply.

Recipients of the MSI STEM Bridge Scholarship will receive $5,000. They will also need to apply for the NASA internship and fellowship program, interview a faculty member, attend a webinar, and research one of the NASA Mission Directorates. Additionally, Bridge Scholars will have opportunities to expand their academic and professional networks and receive guidance on future opportunities with NASA and NC Space Grant.
