Science Communications Internship
We are seeking a communications intern from NC State University to work with us now through May 15, 2022.
Paid position: 8 to 10 hours per week
Graduate student preferred. Undergraduates with experience considered.
Open to all majors/fields, but we are seeking communications experience, especially science communications.
Job Description
The intern creates and edits content in collaboration with the NC Space Grant team, with a focus on web-based communications. Ability to respond quickly to changing tasks is critical, and to manage multiple deadlines. Duties may include administrative tasks, assistance at events and other activities. Experience or familiarity with some or all of the tasks below is a plus.
Communications tasks:
- drafting content for blog posts
- conducting interviews by email and phone and video conferences
- searching for appropriate and available royalty-free images to accompany text
- proofreading text developed by the team
- researching background on policy, events and people
- using WordPress Gutenberg content management system for publishing blog posts, adding images and hyperlinks, and updating pages
- identifying key audiences, including research to maintain updated outreach lists
- drafting social media posts to draw attention to online content; and
- assisting in developing reports for the university and funding agency regarding our metrics, impacts and accomplishments.
The intern also may assist with print products, PowerPoint presentations, preparations for meetings, compilation of materials for events, formatting print products for online publication and/or other requests. All assigned duties will depend on skills and experience accumulated prior to and during the internship. Supervisor and team members will provide resume-building training and career mentorship throughout the internship period.
During fall semester 2021 the position will be remote, with regular online meetings with the supervisor and key team members. Location for Spring 2022 is TBA, Work hours will be focused between 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
