North Carolina’s Sea Grant and Space Grant programs are now accepting applications for the one-year Graduate Research Fellowship. This fellowship of up to $10,000 will be awarded to one graduate student whose work addresses a high-priority research need within North Carolina’s coastal areas, watersheds and nearshore environments.

The fellow will use data from the vast archives and remote-sensing capabilities available through the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to support the execution of their proposed work.

The joint North Carolina Sea Grant – NC Space Grant Graduate Research Fellowship Program offers funding for interdisciplinary proposals from across the state. A faculty member at the fellow’s institution must oversee the research for the duration of the fellowship period. The start date can vary, but must be after June 1, 2022. All work must be completed by May 31, 2023. Fellows will have the opportunity to present their research findings at a meeting or conference among peer researchers and other audiences, such as the annual NC Space Symposium, hosted by NC Space Grant, and North Carolina Sea Grant’s intermittent N.C. Coastal Conference.

Application Deadline: 5 p.m., Friday, April 1, 2022
