2023-24 NC Space Grant Scholarship & Fellowship Opportunities Open Now

North Carolina Space Grant has opened its signature funding opportunities, the Undergraduate Research Scholarship and the Graduate Research Fellowship, for applications for the 2023-24 academic year.

Undergraduate Research Scholarship

The Undergraduate Research Scholarship is a competitive award geared towards students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields that support NASA’s mission directorates. This program is designed for students interested in research that has aerospace and NASA applications. Recipients are also afforded opportunities to cultivate relationships with peers, faculty and the NASA community.

Selected Undergraduate Research Scholars undertake a research project supervised by a faculty member over a 12-month period, beginning June 1, 2023 and ending no later than May 31, 2024. Research can take place on the home campus or at an industrial or government facility.

Deadlines:

  • Undergraduate students must submit their applications for review by 5 p.m. ET on Monday, March 13, 2023.
  • Faculty members must submit their letters of recommendation by 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.

Graduate Research Fellowship

The Graduate Research Fellowships are intended to encourage outstanding individuals to pursue research and careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) that support NASA’s Mission Directorates.

NC Space Grant Graduate Research Fellowships provide support for graduate students to supplement and enhance their basic research. Selected participants engage in an active, defined research activity in a STEM field that has NASA Mission Directorate applications.

The research must be supervised by a faculty mentor and may be conducted virtually, on the home campus, or at an industrial/government facility. Selected Graduate Research Fellows will conduct research over the course of a 12-month period, beginning June 1, 2023 and ending May 31, 2024.
