The “AVID Curiosity” team from Culbreth Middle School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, recently won the ‘Best Middle School’ regional award in the “Plant the Moon Challenge” NASA Space Grant Regional Project. Led by Christine Sudzina Schut, the team competed against 360 other schools, clubs, and education organizations involving over 3,600 students across five southeastern states and Puerto Rico.

North Carolina Space Grant welcomes its new group of STEM Pre-Service Teacher Education Scholars. Throughout the academic year, this scholarship program will provide selected future teachers with NASA content in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to enthusiastically teach impactful STEM topics.

North Carolina Space Grant is among partners working with the Virginia Space Grant Consortium for student projects in the NASA Space Grant Plant the Moon Challenge. The new project is one of four national awards announced through NASA Space Grant KIDS to provide experiences and lessons about NASA’s Artemis mission to return human explorers to the Moon and to Mars.
