2020-21 Scholarship & Fellowship Opportunities Available

North Carolina Space Grant is excited to announce the 2020-21 Undergraduate Research Scholarship and the Graduate Research Fellowship funding opportunities.

The Undergraduate Research Scholarship awards students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields that support NASA’s mission. This competitive program is for undergraduate students wanting to participate in research that has aerospace and NASA applications. Award recipients will also develop mentor relationships with peers, faculty and the NASA community.

Selected Undergraduate Research Scholars will conduct research over the course of a 12-month period, commencing June 1, 2020 and ending May 30, 2021. The research must be supervised by a faculty mentor and may be conducted on the home campus or at an industrial or government facility.

Applicants must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline of interest to NASA or aerospace industry. Learn more about the Undergraduate Research Scholarship here.

The Graduate Research Fellowships are designed to provide support for graduate students to supplement and enhance their basic research. Students participate in an active, identified research activity in a STEM field that has NASA Mission Directorate applications. The research must be supervised by a faculty mentor and may be conducted on the home campus or at an industrial or government facility. The objective is to encourage talented individuals to pursue careers in STEM fields that support NASA’s mission.

As with the undergraduate program, selected Graduate Research Fellows will conduct their research over the course of a 12-month period, commencing June 1, 2020 and ending May 30, 2021. The research must be supervised by a faculty mentor and may be conducted on the home campus or at an industrial or government facility.

The deadlines for student applications for both the undergraduate and graduate opportunities is 5 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020. Faculty members must submit their letters of recommendation by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2020.
